Bureau Veritas / HydrOcean

Neuilly-sur-Seine, September 8, 2015 – Bureau Veritas has completed its acquisition of HydrOcean, a French engineering company specializing in digital simulation of hydrodynamics for the maritime sector.

Created in 2007, HydrOcean provides support services in the design of vessels, offshore facilities, sailboat racing and a system for the recovery of marine energy, enabling them to assess and maximise their hydrodynamics performance efficiency. HydrOcean has very advanced digital simulation tools, which is co-developed with the Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides de l’Ecole Centrale de Nantes.

HydrOcean’s simulation support services and tools mitigate the risks, the delays and production costs of the vessels. It is a growing sector due to the increasing demand from the shipbuilding, offshore and boating industries and the emergence of marine renewable energies.

Based in Nantes, HydrOcean employs 18 engineers and had revenues of €2.7M in 2014.

“Through the acquisition of HydrOcean, Bureau Veritas welcomes an outstanding team of experts and extremely innovating entrepreneurs. The Group is increasingly designing solutions by integrating new technologies to their traditional testing, inspection and certification services. The calculation tools together with the HydrOcean expertise perfectly fit within this dynamic framework and complement the services of the marine and offshore activities; especially in the reduction of energy consumption of vessels,” stated Didier Michaud-Daniel, Director General of Bureau Veritas.

“The technical and business partnership set up with Bureau Veritas over a year ago has enabled us to successfully carry out several projects.
Today we are thrilled to be part of one of the first classification companies in the world, which will assist us in developing our activities on an international level,” stated Erwan Jacquin, president and founder of HydrOcean.
